Quick and Easy DIY Clean/Dirty Dishwasher Magnets
How many times have you been asked…”Is the dishwasher clean?”. No more with these handy quick and easy DIY clean dirty dishwasher magnets. You probably have all of the materials needed to complete it already in your craft supplies.
- Scrapbook paper of your choice
- Sheet magnet (mine was a magnet advertising my local pizza joint)
- Ultra fine point Sharpie permanent marker in black
- Glue (I used Mod Podge)
- Paintbrush (optional)
Let’s Get Started
Being that my sheet magnet was already cut to size I did not need to cut it. If you do not have a magnet advertising your local pizza joint as I did and you had to purchase sheet magnets, measure and cut your magnet to your preferred size. Mine measures 4 inches x 2 inches.
Once you have your magnet cut to size, place it on your piece of scrapbook paper (you want the side you’ve chosen to be face down). Trace your magnet with your pencil.
Using your scissors, cut the paper along the pencil line.
Place your scrapbook paper face up. As you can see in the photo, my scrapbook paper is double sided. I chose the polka dot side to be the side that I want for my design.
Measure Your Magnet
Take your ruler and measure the length of your magnet. Take that measurement and divide it by 4. In my case, my magnet measured 4 inches. That would give me 1 inch. Take your pencil and mark the paper at 1-inch intervals. Do this on both sides. This helps to create a straight line. Using your ruler, line up your marks and draw a line to separate the spaces.
Are We Clean Yet?
Write “clean” along the line at the top of your design. Turn your design around and write “dirty” along the line towards the bottom. Make sure you write one of the words upside down! This is important as you will be placing the side up that indicates whether your dishes are clean or dirty.
Along the center mark, draw a wavy line. If you are not comfortable doing that just draw a straight line. I added little leaves along mine, but if you are not in the least artistic, leave that little detail out! I would at least add a dividing line between the two words.
Tracing Aint Always Easy
Grab your Sharpie and trace what you just drew on your paper (don’t worry if you aren’t exact). I added a little weight to my words by making my down strokes a little thicker. Fill in your added strokes. See photo.
Once you have everything traced with the Sharpie, let it dry (this only takes a minute), then take your eraser and erase all of the pencil marks.
We’re In The Homestretch Now
Glue the paper to the magnet using a paint brush, or in my case your finger. Let it dry completely.
Didn’t these turn out nice? Now you will be able to look at your dishwasher without opening it to see if the dishes are clean or dirty (unless you have kids who empty the dishwasher and forget to turn the magnet). I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy project. Be sure to make a few extras for your family and friends! Now go wash some dishes (or empty your dishwasher)!
